How the Hands-Free Kit attaches

Two shock-cord loops hold any SMD umbrella on your pack's shoulder strap, so both hands stay free.

    Defect product

    After reading all the good reviews, decided to purchase one even though it needs to be sent internationally. Unfortunately, I was given a defect product with a broken rib. The disappointment is beyond words.

    Mini umbrella

    I love having this small umbrella along for the times that I have to set up or break camp in the rain. Also for those nightly "step outside the tent" times us old guys have to deal with... I'm a bikepacker so it's not very practical for travel so I have to rely on my rain gear for that. I'm a little frustrated with a couple of things though. The process of snapping the ends into place pretty much requires the umbrella to be open. In a small one-man tent, that's a bit cumbersome. Im used to just opening my old umbrella as I step out of my tent and it opened fully very easily. I've just learned to fully open my mini umbrella and lay it collapsed in the vestibule. The other little, very little, thing is the carrying sleeve. When then included larger handle is attached, it doesn't fit fully inside which doesn't allow the sleeve to snap for better packing. I love the size and lightweight so I'll live with a couple of little quirks. Thanks so much for designing this little guy!

    Great shade for walking

    Using this on a Camino walk in Spain. It’s lightweight and easy to hold with the bigger foam handle.

    If you plan on using trekking poles, not sure this would work for you. It is impractical to secure to you pack and walk along. Any wind / breeze would be challenging and the direction of sun would be changing.

    Maybe for the sun directly overhead and no wind could you go hands free.

    I usually just close the umbrella and retract the center pole. I do not bother collapsing/ folding the ribs / veins since it takes time / patience. Would only do that for storage in pack, etc.

    Mini Hiking Umbrella

    The umbrella is very light and compact, which I love. It seems very fragile, though. It takes time to gently and carefully open it. This works ok for sun, but the slow opening won't be helpful for rain. For me, the jury is still out if this will end up joining my quiver of essential trail gear.
